Make The Decision Now

It starts as soon as we wake up, everyday, greeting us with thousands of new and exciting possibilities, they're unrelenting and unable to dissipate until we answer their calls, there with us even when we're reaching for our pillows at night and turning of the lights, for a lucky few perhaps even in our dreams.

I woke up this morning and said "I'm going to finish reading my book,  write two book reviews, create a new blog post,  and then start writing my own book",
These are just a few decisions I made today, I'm glad to say I'm three quarters complete to achieving what I set out to do. However it was not always like this I would procrastinate, decide not to decide and even make a decision and then not follow through.

What Have you decided to do?
Decisions are the choice we make, we are capable of making great decisions and also terrible ones, to increase the amount of great decisions we make, all we have to do is start deciding the more we practice the better we'll become,

When we're at a new restaurant how long does it take to decide what's for dinner?

Decide to Decide
When I was younger I would respond to questions with "I don't care", It's true that I didn't care but by not making the decision I was still making one, It's kind of a paradox. every time we make a decision we strengthen our basal ganglia it's the part of the brain related to the decision making process, The stronger our basal ganglia the easier and quicker we can make decisions.
Next time before you say " I don't care" pick a preference and make it yours.

Create a Predetermined conclusion
Knowing in advance that we're going to be asked a question is always beneficial, this allows ourselves plenty of time to gather all the relevant and information and get informed, by deciding our answer in advance it makes the transition of being questioned to giving our answer as smooth as possible.

There's many times when questions are sprung on us with little to no warning at all, what about the times when we have to make those split second decisions. In these cases it's our values and beliefs that define our decisions and actions that follow. To better understand how we'll respond in these situations read this post on discovering your self.

When to decide
Depending on what's at stake and the urgency, its best to decide relatively quick, when we hesitate the facts and circumstances can change, its also proven that the longer we put off making our decision the less important the outcome means to us, it also increases the likelihood of us not making the decision at all and weakens our basal ganglia the decision making muscle.

Making the Decision
Remember whatever choice we make it's the right one, try not to second guess our decisions or relive them in a negative context, thinking I should have said this or I should have done that is not going to help and its only contradicting your judgment.
Remember whatever decision we make its the right one based on what we know at that time.

When A decision goes bad
Many a times i've made the wrong decision, I believe we all have and this fact is not going to change any time soon, so what should we do when we make the wrong decision?
The only thing we can,  learn from our mistakes.
There's no point in getting upset or defending our decision if its wrong, the quickest way to deflate a bubble of animosity is to admit our mistakes and move on, this will give us a greater insight when making future decisions.
